The G2-ITU is a Trunk Interface Unit designed to be installed in the GDS Hybrid IP system. It enables networking capability to the world at large over a SIP Based VoIP infrastructure. Initially the main use of a G2-ITU will be to provide network links to the global telephone network via an Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP). Such trunk links provide significant call cost savings compared to traditional PSTN network connections and in certain configurations are an equivalent substitute for some of the more advanced features of ISDN networks for example Indial. Due to the capabilities of the SIP protocol and clever design of GDS systems the ITU platform also provides for the formation of direct connections to other GDS systems thereby enabling the easy formation of multi-site networks for your business. These networks allow direct intersite station to station dialing, enhanced call routing, and avoidance of traditional costly toll charges. In these direct connect configurations accumulated call cost is primarily the cost of the broadband service supporting the ITU network.

The G1E-ITU is a Trunk Interface Unit designed to be installed in the G1E Plus Hybrid IP system. The functionality afforded by this IP trunk card is equivalent to the G2-ITU noted above, with the exception of GDS specific system feature extensions. Having said that there is a processor card option that can be mounted in the G1E Plus system - transforming it into a "G1E+M" - that adds these GDS feature extensions, in which case the functionality of the G1E-ITU is equivalent. Since the G1E Plus basic system offers extreme economy in system cost, addition of a G1E-ITU creates a very powerful option for a small business, or SOHO, system.
